Certification Governance Committee (CGC)

The CGC is responsible for the development, administration, and governance of CoSN credentialing programs and activities - principally the CETL™ Certified Education Technology Leader certification.  The CGC is comprised of fifteen (15) members, a majority of whom are elected by CETL certificants in good standing, the remainder appointed by either the CoSN Board of Directors or by the CGC itself. The Certification Governance Committee has full autonomy over all core credentialing decisions and all important aspects of CoSN’s credentialing programs and activities, including: strategic oversight of the CETLTM  program; definition of eligibility criteria; exam scope and content; recertification criteria and process, the development, administration, and scoring of assessment instruments; granting of certification; marketing and promotion; and ethics and professionalism, including complaints against certificants.

 

2018 Open Seats on the CGC

The CGC is currently seeking Applications for Nomination for the following three (3) open seats Successful candidates will serve a three-year term-of-office commencing July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021. The seats to be filled are:

 

One (1) CETL Seat  – this individual must be a current CETL in good standing. A CETL in good standing is one who has maintained certification, as necessary, and has no pending disciplinary action against him or her.  The CGC is particularly interested in Applications for Nomination from individuals who reflect one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Resides in the Western United States
  • Employed by a small-sized district (fewer than 2,500 students)
  • Employed by an independent/parochial/charter school.  

This individual will be elected by CETL certificants in good standing at the time of the election.

 

One (1) Public Seat – this individual is defined as, “a representative of the consumers of services provided by the certificant (CETL) population, serving as a voting member on the governing body of a certification program, with all rights and privileges, including holding office and serving on committees." The Public member offers value to the CGC by helping to:

  •  enhance the program’s credibility with the public and with employers;
  • make the CGC more accountable to the public; and
  • bring a different perspective and new ideas to the CGC’s deliberations and its priorities.

This individual cannot be a CETL, or a supervisor of CETLs.

This individual will be elected by CETL certificants in good standing.

 

One (1) Employer Seat  - this individual is defined as, “a representative of the employers of the certificant (CETL) population, who is in the unique position to understand the value a CETL certificant can bring to a school or district." The Employer member offers value to the CGC by helping:

  • enhance the program’s credibility with employers;
  • serve as a advocate to employer groups;
  • and to share the perspective of employers with the CGC to bring that important perspective to the CGC’s deliberations and its priorities.  

 

Examples of individuals in this role may be: district superintendent; assistant superintendent; chief financial officer, educational service agency leader; state department of education leader.  

 

This individual will be appointed by the CGC.

 

Expectations of CGC Members:

All CGC members hold their position for one (1) three-year term.  Terms begin on July 1.  Those who complete an initial three-year term are eligible to be considered for a second term, providing they have maintained their eligibility.  The CGC meets via web conference on a monthly basis. In addition, all CGC members participate on the various subcommittees of the CGC, and are expected to be active ambassadors for the CETL program.

 

Please note: those who are members of the CGC cannot participate in the formal or informal preparation of candidates to take the CETL exam during the term on the CGC, and for two (2) years after stepping down.  Presentations about the CETL process and value are permitted and encouraged.

 

 

Election Process & Timeline

Applications will be accepted through April 20, 2018.  The Nominating Committee will review submissions and may request additional information from, or a phone interview with, applicants.  A slate of nominees will be presented to the CGC for approval and then a ballot sent to all CETLs in good standing.  Applicants will be informed as to whether or not they have been placed on the ballot.  Elections will take place in May 2018.
