K12 Data Analytics Companies

Who have people been looking at for data analytics companies? Data walls? Companies that can help with more real time visualizations of SIS data, assessment data, etc.

So far we've looked at PowerSchool Insight, Hoonuit, Tableau, Google sheets.

We like how Hoonuit displays and organizes info along with RTI tracking.

Anyone have suggestions on other companies to take a look at?

We looked at PowerBI, Tableau, Schoolzilla, Schoology, Forecast5 and Qlik. We are most interested in Qlik for visualizations and insights.

We are a relatively new company in the K12 Data Analytics world. PAPERbasket differs greatly from other accountability tools that have been introduced in recent years. Unique to PAPERbasket is its method of distinguishing "active versus inactive use". While some other companies may measure hits or cumulative time logged into a system, neither of those models tell the full story.

We've used Tableau in the past.  We're using BrightBytes for some things, and next year we'll be implementing Forecast 5 - 5Labs.

I have been using Guide K12. It's a geo-analytics application and we've used it for years. We have made programmatic and transportation decisions saving us money and providing programs in areas most needed. I hope this helps.

We've been using Hoonuit for some time now.  I'm familiar with some of their previous generations of dashboards, and their user presentation has gotten a lot better over the years.  We are currently deploying our dashboards to other districts in the state (as a service), and its working well for us at the moment.

Have looked seriously at Tableau, which has great visualizations for data, but their pricing models just do not work for education, unless you have very deep pockets.  If they can ever fix this.... I'd be more interested.... but not holding my breath.

Great suggestions from everyone. We are not really looking for software analytics. We are really looking for something to present and analyzed student data around attendance, behavior, grades and assessments.

I've been following this for a few days. I might also suggest looking at Midas Education, they are doing some interesting things. We also have Amazon QuickSight. If interested I can make an introduction to either. The tools clearly depends on your overall goals, and who will be using it.

    Have a great day!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Below is the list that seemed to best fit what we were looking for. We are really looking for something that handles a lot of the heavy lifting for us as we don't have a data person on staff. I've done 4 short vendor demos so far, noted below. All but one look like what we might be interested in. We like when they have RTI/MTSS functionality built in. It seems to be the direction tools are taking.

PowerSchool Insight - had demo, missing some visualizations and limited customization, RTI functionality coming
Hoonuit - had demo, great visualizations and ability to work with data, RTI functionality
IOeducation - had demo, good features and nice visualizations, RTI funcitionality
BrightBytes - had demo, not sure if it has visualizations we need, secret sauce formula to risk, RTI functionality
    Performancematters/PeopleAdmin - demo scheduled
Alpine Achievement systems - demo scheduled
    Forcast5/5lab - working on demo

    Schoolzilla - working on demo

Thought I'd update with what we have done to this point. I've done a 1:1 demo with all vendors in our list and scheduled 2 based on features, cost, and how the initial demo went.

    PowerSchool Insight
     - had demo, missing some visualizations and limited customization, RTI functionality coming
Performancematters/PeopleAdmin - had demo, not sure their method of data loading is for us, RTI?
Alpine Achievement systems - had demo, looks like it can do all things we want and RTI
Forcast5/5lab - had demo, visualization was good, no RTI
Schoolzilla - had demo, great visualizations, no RTI

We are scheduling admin demos for Alpine Achievement Systems and IOeducation. The looked very similar in their 1:1 demos. There data load/automation looked like they would not have issues with our data sources. They also both offered RTI/MTSS tracking/plans in their product. We are at a point where that will be a valuable add-on for us. That eliminated some vendors.

If we decided that we didn't like the RTI functionality offered by either vendor then I will recommend we look at Schoolzilla. It has powerful data tools though the cost can quickly accelerate since they will charge based on per student and also per data source.

All vendors did a per student charge. Some had minimums which for our school size can make them too high.

Also PowerSchool is dropping Insights and partnering with PerformanceMatters. I'm guessing they will buy them but their is a lot of cross over in other tools that PowerSchool has already purchased.

Let me know if anyone wants more details or how our final demos go.

Did you develop a rubric to assess the data platforms you looked at? If not, does anyone else have a rubric? I'd like to use a rubric with the committee that is reviewing our two data/assessment platform finalists.

We did not develop a rubric. We are a small enough district that we did demos for our administrative team and made our decision as a team.
